This is what I've been waiting for.......for over a month......

A custom built Ford 9inch from Currie Ent.

...with all the good stuff...

Home

Using the funding I got from my accident I ordered a ford 9 inch. It has many many upgraded and beefy stuff on it. Cause when I do something...I don't fuck around, I do it right... So here is what the axle has or is.

It has a 23inch wide extra heavy duty housing with 1/4inch walls and V-notched ends. HD axle tubes that measure 3.25dia and 1/4inch wall thickness. Large Torino style bearings at the ends. Standard gear case. 9+ Race nodular iron pinion support (large bearing). Detriot Locker. 4.56 gearing. 31 spline Currie Performance alloy shafts. And best of all are the Wilwood 12inch rotors with the 4 piston calipers and the internal parking brakes.....Here are some pics....enjoy!

Tuesday, Mr. Morrison is coming over to hang out and help me install the axle, because he is such a kick-ass cool kinda guy. Plus we love hanging out

So I'll be adding a bunch of pics as we progress

Tuesday: Mr. (Jim) Morrison came over as well as Jon V. and my cousin RJ and Greg M. was over for a bit. It was cold as shit today, but we did most of our work inside the heated garage. Only outside work was putting the U-bolts on. Jim did a kick-ass job of bending up the brake lines. I think he's done this before...wink. I give Jon credit for driving down to 4x4 Performance for me and getting the new spring plates (top plates) since my old ones wouldn't work. National Auto and Car Quest supplied the brake lines and fittings. Lucas stopped by and gave me some 85/140 gear oil. Ya know....cause we're such good friends....cough cough. Stole the distribution black from my old axle and used the bolt on top of the housing to mount it. After it was in the truck, we plugged the rear line and bled the air out. Plugged it b/c I wasn't gonna bleed 8 pistons in the freezing cold, so I drove to the shop on front brakes only. No problem..... Haha, Picture this, as soon as I got in my truck I back out in the street and pulled up the old driveway to the shop....as soon as my tires hit the snow....I hit the throttle!! Fronts locked and those 37s spun like mad hell!! Driving back to the shop with no rear shocks, no rear brakes, and a locked front....I still went through the damn field. OK....i gtg....I'll update with pics tomorrow sometime. Ltr

Wednesday: Didn't work on the truck. Had classes and a lot of HW/projects that are due. I did however take my driveshaft over to Sampey's Machine Shop in Telford. Hopefully they'll pull through and git-er-done quick. I told the guy I'd pay extra for fast service, we'll see what they pull off. If the D.S. is finished tomorrow then I'll install it, bleed the brakes, bolt in the shocks and AFRO-engineer some tail lights so I can drive to class tomorrow night. Its gonna take me a while to finalize everything, but I'll be very happy when it is all said and done. So hopefully the GF can bare with me till I finish all this stuff or get dirty and help!!!? JK

Thursday: Late thursday night I worked on the ranger... Somehow managed to get back there without killing myself. There was ice everywhere. Anyway... I got my driveshaft from Sampey's Machine Shop around 5pm. So I got that installed. Bolted in the shocks. Hooked up the stainless brake hose from the frame to the distribution block on the axle. Cracked the 8 bleeders on the wilwood calipers and uncaped the brake fuild reservoir and saw that it was draining out. Went back to the calipers and noticed fuild was already coming out. So I gravity bled all the pistons and it worked out great. (note: truck was already on jack stands to get to outter bleeders) Then I put the tires back on. Next I jumped in the truck and put her in drive and let the tires start spinning. Stayed around 10mph. So i jumped out and watched everything spin and made sure everything looked good. Chopped the throttle, truck jumped and tools started dropping everywhere. Haha...oh well. Also tested out the brakes when it was up and spinning. Next was mounting the brake lights temporarily. So I grabbed some metal stock and drilled some holes, did a little welding and waaa laaaa brake lights. Zip tied some wires and everything was working good. So next was the test drive. Now....this is the first time I've driven my truck since 10-27 and its now 12-16. So almost two months... Also I had to break in the gears and make sure everything is working right. So I opened the shop door and slam er in reverse and spun outta there.... right onto the ice covered ramp. Slide down the ramp, parked, and ran to close the door so the heating bill isn't sky high. Drove around town on the ice covered streets. Passed two cops and I realized everything must be legal cause you can't miss my truck going through town with no bed on and temp brake lights. Kicked the ass end out a bunch of times and had some fun, but took it easy on the gears. Went home, end of story....I'll post some pics. Its about 1:20am on friday. So if there is a spelling mistake, go fuck off. JK, just let me know and I'll change it. Goodnight!

Thursday (12/22/05): Its fun driving around with the new axle, but it has its downsides. They are very FEW but one is backing out of a parking space. That locker makes it hard. Everything binds up and I end up just squeeling a tire something bad. Thats about the only bad thing I can thing of right now. I do have a lot better traction and a lot more fun with a locker. If I wasn't sitting on 500 dollars worth of rubber in the back you can bet I'd be sideways on a lot more roads in town. Cause it sure makes it freakin easy to do. I have to work out some more bugs in the rear suspension before I can go to paragon. I need some sort of panhard bar or trac bar...whatever you call it, for the axle. I flexed it out on a snow pile and it hit the gas tank skid plate badly. So I need to get that figured out. I just painted the bottom of the truck bed, so its ready to go on. Its fun to ride around w/o the bed, but it rides like a freakin tank and its driving me nuts. If it wasn't a daily driver, then I'd say fuck it....keep the bed off for a couple weeks just for fun.

Monday (1/2/06): Happy New Year for starters.... Well I got the bed back on the truck and it rides MUCH better. I don't feel every bump in the road now. Still have to make that trac-bar. Well the shackles are broken in now. Everytime I accelerate hard off the line the shackles unload and the back of the truck goes up about 5 inches. You'd think it would squat down, but it doesn't. Quite funny to watch if you ask me. I have to fab up a cross-member for the front of the gas tank, because the old one is in the way of the driveshaft when the suspension is at full drop. I have some ideas, its just finding the time to do it. Well, I have time today, so i gtg. TTYL

Tuesday (1/10/06) Everything is doing okay except the pinion seal is leaking. So Currie Ent. is going to be getting a phone call about that. Kinda pisses me off. It should not be leaking for such an expensive axle. The brakes work great, they are really amazing. Once I proportion them down a bit the truck should stop on a freakin dime...well maybe a quarter or half dollar. But still, stopping a truck running 37inch tires that nice is good. At least I think so. The shackles still haven't stopped amazing me also. We (Jon, RJ and I) flexed it out on a pile of rocks and the axle flexed down like something fierce. All I need to do is get rid of that damn gas tank and install a fuel cell so I don't have to build a panhard bar (trac bar...whatever). Well thats that, ttyl.

Tuesday (1/17/06) I love the locker. Wet roads and a Detriot make me very happy!!! Nothing like pulling out of a side street and getting the ass end to go out a little sideways. Keeps the blood flowing! Haha. I need to build some trac bars, starting to get annoyed with the rare occurance of axle hop.
